Children and the Dominion Mandate

Vision Forum has just recently released several new CD’s and grouped some of them together in a package entitled The Fruit of the Gospel Audio Collection.

For anyone who is interested, one of these messages, entitled Children and the Dominion Mandate by William Einwechter, is available for free at Sermon Audio. I doubt whether it is the exact same recording, but it is probably the same basic message.

An Imminent (Any Moment) Return?

Dispensationalism
Articles, Sermons and Other Writings

"...the apostles never taught that Christ could come back at any moment with no prophesied events occurring first! They could not have done so....

It was a well known fact among the early church that Peter would grow old and be crucified! Therefore, they also knew that Jesus could not come back “at any moment” before this took place.

Consider the implications of this fact. It seems to be commonly agreed that Peter died sometime around 64 AD under the persecution of Nero, after most of the New Testament was already written! (67 AD according to Charles Ryrie, a leading Dispensationalist, in his Introduction to 2nd Peter in the Ryrie Study Bible).

Paul’s last letter (2nd Timothy) was written about the same time Peter was put to death. (Ryrie dates the writing of 2 Timothy a year before Peter’s martyrdom). Think about that for a moment; Paul knew that Peter would grow old and be crucified and Paul most likely wrote all of his books before peter died, Paul, therefore, could not have taught anyone that Christ’s return could occur at any moment in any of his writings!

Neither could Peter have taught such a view of the “any moment” return of Christ for he knew that he would be dead before Christ would return. In fact, it is commonly agreed that all of the New Testament, except for maybe John’s letters, were written before 65 AD and yet these are the very letters that are used to support the teaching of an any moment return!..."

Virginia Tech Tragedy is a Wake-Up Call to Parents

An interesting article by George Barna. In The Barna Group

  • "Education, both in the home and outside of it, provides diminishing emphasis upon the development of character, and increasing emphasis upon meeting academic performance standards, especially through standardized testing."

  • "Most young people admit that they feel as if they do not receive sufficient attention from their parents; do not have enough good friends whom they can count on; are unsettled about their own future; have personal spiritual perspectives but not much of a sense of spiritual community; lack role models; and do not feel that they have intrinsic value."

Adultery and the foundations of society

A word on marriage, pledges, vows, law and adultery from T.R. Ingram as quoted in
The Institutes of Biblical Law
By: Rousas J. Rushdoony

"Public witness to mutual consent and pledges of troth: these are the things that make a marriage.

The integrity of the whole moral argument of the Ten Commandments begins to stand out even more clearly in this. The mystery of making and keeping a pledge of loyalty, a promise, to God, to a spouse; the taking of the name of God in a solemn oath: these are the things upon which the moral law is built. These are the foundations of society. These are the things that are kept alive and in force by the inflicting of penalties for breaking them. Promises, vows, pledges, loyalties all vanish if they are broken with impunity. Society turns on keeping pledges and punishing violations. Credit is an extension of the principle into the business world. The contract is established by a spoken word, and is no better than that word. The bond of loyalty or the effect of a pledge lies in what we might call the spirit world: it has no shape or weight or size; it cannot be touched, seen, or heard. But it controls human life.

What an adulterer really does is to break a particular solemn vow. By his act he tramples upon marriage itself, mocks God and society, and figuratively tosses that particular promise into the trash can, making it of no value."

I don’t nose the answer

It was getting late and the kids were getting ready to go to bed. I had read about Noah’s Ark and was explaining the anger of God toward sin and sinners as seen in the violent destruction of the world by water. I had also discussed the kindness and grace of God in providing a way of salvation from His wrath and had related the whole story to the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ in order to save sinners like us.

My youngest daughter, looking very seriously at me said:

“Papa”

“Yes dear” I replied

“Did Noah have a nose?”

“Yes he did” I replied confidently. “Right on his face.”

“Papa” she said again very seriously

“Yes dear”

“Did him pick it?”

“uhhhh…………..” I replied

“I think him did” she said at last with a great deal of confidence.

How do you answer a question like that?
(Yes, this is the same daughter with the Skittle problem)

Up the nose it goes...

One in 30 aborted babies is born alive

One in 30 babies aborted because of severe handicaps survives, according to a new study in Great Britain.

The aborted babies who were born alive died after an average of 80 minutes, but some lived for more than six hours, reported the Evening Standard, a British newspaper.

Some awesome advice from an old dead guy

Now these are some words to live by!

"Oh, take heed of standing out and wrangling
against what is required because you do not have expressed words. The Lord has laid things so, and especially in the New Testament, for the ordering of the church in the New Testament. You do not have expressed commands for an abundance of things, but sometimes you have an example in some things, and not always a clear example, either. But compare one thing with another, and that which seems to be nearest the mind of God should be enough of a bond to tie us to go according to what the mind of God seems most probably to be in the Scripture. A humble heart will soon be convinced when another man is not."

Civil War

This afternoon we went to a Civil War reenactment at the Mahaffie Stagecoach House in Olathe Kansas. This was the first time I had ever seen such a thing in person and it was very impressive! What a horrible and awe filled thing it would have been to have fought in such a war.

Several times we were almost entirely engulfed in smoke from the cannon fire.

The Church at large seems to have no vision to communicate to its members because it has no vision. "Converts" get excited for a moment over something new but as a little time passes by they cool off, stagnate and often drift away.

But while the Church at large languishes in its present tense conformity to the culture around it, God is raising up a multitude of little Churches with big vision that are planting the seeds of a bright and godly future.

Supreme Court Upholds Partial Birth Abortion Ban Act

Personally I cannot fathom that there is any debate whatsoever about such a gruesome act of violence. But on the other hand we are dealing with unregenerate man and The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?(Jeremiah 17:9) I think that we often underestimate the sickness of the human heart.

Just think about it; each little life that is aborted is an image of God that is despised and literally thrown away in the trash. That is what the sinful world thinks about its Creator.

But brethren, why are we surprised? We the Church are the salt (a preservative) and light (a guide) to the unbelieving world. Maybe if they saw us actually want and desire children instead of trying to prevent them it would cause them to think twice about the life that they are throwing away.

Maybe if they saw us tangibly loving and desiring the image of God as it is found in the new life of little children, maybe then they would take our claim to love God more seriously.

If we Christians are busy trying to prevent more images of God, why would we expect the world to value them? What kind of light are we?

On the Horror at Virginia Tech, Doug's Blog

"....The modern trend towards school killings must be considered in terms of the hopelessness and evil which is being communicated to the children of this generation through the music culture, the entertainment culture, the sexual culture, and the intellectual culture of evolution and meaninglessness — all of which converge in the modern schools. Our children are being taught the Gospel of evolution and man. It is a religious faith that ultimately teaches that transcendent truth does not exist; life is meaningless, being the product of chance. Why are we surprised when the present generation acts upon the logical implications of this false gospel? If we do not see the connection between this false faith and the culture of death, we are blind bats, or willingly ignorant. The answer for us as a people is repentance and restitution, which begins by turning from our sins and reclaiming the ancient paths of the Lord wherein there is hope...."

BURDEN BEARING

"Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee" (Psa 55:22).

"What a remarkable statement is that! Probably our very familiarity with it has prevented any sense of wonderment over it. Try and conceive what would be its first effect upon a converted heathen! He has been brought to a saving knowledge of the living God and granted a measure of light on His august Being and Majesty. He has learned that by His mere fiat, the universe was called into existence: That so infinitely is He exalted above all creatures, the nations of the earth are regarded by Him as but a drop in the bucket; that He sits enthroned on High, where myriads of creatures bow before Him in worship crying, "Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts" (Isa 6:3). And now he learns that this King of kings and Lord of lords invites him to "Cast thy burden upon the LORD" (Psa 55:22)! Must not such a discovery be overwhelming to his mind and heart! And ought it not to have the same effect on us?—that He who "humbleth himself to [even] behold the things that are in heaven" (Psa 113:6) deigns to bid us lay upon HIM what we find too heavy to carry."

Violence against Parents an 'alarming trend'

Many times the victims are bruised in a fight or shoved down stairs. Others are stabbed with scissors. Last November, one was beaten to death with a hammer.

And the suspects, in more than 1,800 cases documented in Harris County over a recent 2½-year period, were their children.

Sovereignty of God
By A.W. Pink / Banner Of Truth

This is an excellent little book dealing with a very important and weighty subject. This quote from the book says it all:

"How different is the God of the Bible from the God of modern Christendom! The conception of Deity which prevails most widely today, even among those who profess to give heed to the Scriptures, is a miserable caricature, a pathetic travesty of the Truth. The God of the twentieth century is a helpless, effeminate being who commands the respect of no really thoughtful man. The God of the popular mind is the creation of a maudlin sentimentality. The God of many a present-day pulpit is an object of pity rather than an awe-inspiring reverence."

From The Back of the Book

"Present day conditions," writes the author, "call loudly for a new examination and new presentation of God's omnipotence, God's sufficiency, God's sovereignty. From every pulpit in the land it needs to be thundered forth that God still lives, that God still observes, that God still reigns. Faith is now in the crucible, it is being tested by fire, and there is no fixed and sufficient resting-place for the heart and mind but in the throne of God. What is needed now, as never before, is a full, positive, constructive setting forth of the Godhood of God."

Some Quotes From The Book

"Almost all doctrinal error is, really, Truth perverted, Truth wrongly divided, Truth disproportionately held and taught. The fairest face on earth, with the most comely features, would soon become ugly and unsightly, if one member continued growing while the others remained undeveloped. Beauty is, primarily, a matter of proportion. Thus it is with the Word of God: its beauty and blessedness are best perceived when its manifold wisdom is exhibited in its true proportions"

"Here then is the refutation of the wicked charge that this doctrine is a horrible calumny upon God and dangerous to expound to His people. Can a doctrine be "horrible" and "dangerous" that gives God His true place, that maintains His rights, that magnifies His grace, that ascribes all glory to Him and removes every ground of boasting from the creature? Can a doctrine be "horrible" and "dangerous" which affords the saints a sense of security in danger, that supplies them comfort in sorrow, that begets patience within them in adversity, that evokes from them praise at all times? Can a doctrine be "horrible" and "dangerous" which assures us of the certain triumph of good over evil, and which provides a sure resting-place for our hearts, and that place, the perfections of the Sovereign Himself? No; a thousand times, no. Instead of being "horrible and dangerous" this doctrine of the Sovereignty of God is glorious and edifying, and a due apprehension of it will but serve to make us exclaim with Moses, "Who is like unto thee, O Lord, among the gods? who is like Thee, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders?" (Ex. 15:11)."

"Instead of hindering the development of Christian character, a proper apprehension and appreciation of God’s sovereignty will forward it. Just as the sinner’s despair of any help from himself is the first prerequisite of a sound conversion, so the loss of all confidence in himself is the first essential in the believer’s growth in grace; and just as the sinner despairing of help from himself will cast him into the arms of sovereign mercy, so the Christian, conscious of his own frailty, will turn unto the Lord for power. It is when we are weak, we are strong (2 Cor. 12:10): that is to say, there must be consciousness of our weakness before we shall turn to the Lord for help."

What a mercy it is!

Some Good Quotes
Prayer

"What a mercy it is that we are not banished out of God's presence, that the Lord has not spurned us out of His sight as filth and cast us out as an everlasting abhorring. While others have been praying, we might have been yelling under the wrath of the eternal God.Come with this apprehension of yourself, and adore God's goodness that you are alive to pray and alive to hear God's Word, and that it is not only a duty, but a rich privilege and mercy that God will admit you into His presence."
